Don & Velma Dewa Vintage Neckpiece

A collector's piece of museum quality work by Zuni artists Don and Velma Dewa. This piece is massive measuring six inches across by 8 1/2 inches high not including the chain. The chain is completely handmade and measures about 8 1/2 inches on either side. There are two sections attached to the chain with six inlaid feathers on either side that are attached to the main piece with hinges. The main piece features an intricately carved eagle midflight. The stones included in this piece are mother of pearl, coral, turquoise, jet and golden mother of pearl. Each feather has been given incredible detail. There is also a sunface at the top, also inlaid with five feathers. The piece is signed with D & V Dewa Zuni. There is a vintage patina on the piece, which we have not buffed, as many collectors prefer. There is a small mark, probably firescale at the bottom. There are two small imperfections on the eagle. It is missing a talon and one of the feathers are the top of the wing is chipped. The piece was most likely done in 1974 or 1975 based on the artist's mark. Additional information/photos available.
